SOUTH Coast Baptist College student Sam Byrne was part of the WA Football West State Team that competed in New South Wales.
The national youth championship was held in Coffs Harbour.
“Our tournament started off slow and we lost 2-0 to Brisbane Roar,” Sam said.
The next day Sam’s team won 2-1 against Capital Football.
“We had to recover quickly as we had a second game to play against NSW,” Sam said.
“We went in strong and in high spirits off our last win.
“However, unfortunately we lost 3-0.”
The next day the WA team played South Australia Blue and won that encounter 3-2.
“We had a quick rest before our second game and again put our all in against Victoria Country, and came out with a 3-0 win,” Sam said.
The WA team’s last two games were against Victoria Metro and New South Wales North.
“We played our worst game against Victoria, losing 6-0,” Same said.
“We were all disappointed and carried that into the next game, losing 2-3.”
Sam said overall the tournament was a great experience.
