COMMUNITY Newspaper Group’s Local Sports Stars program is a golden opportunity for local teams to be recognised and rewarded for their success.

One such team is the Baldivis White Knights Under-17 cricket team, which is getting used to the sweet taste of success after their second premiership flag in a row.

The group also won the Under-15 competition last year in the Peel Junior Cricket Association.

They were also the first side from the Peel region to win the Community Junior Cricket Council T20 competition last year.

The White Knights finished the 2017 season on top of the ladder and contested the grand final with third-placed Halls Head on April 4.

Sent in to bat, Baldivis started strongly with Wesley Steele unbeaten on 33, Mitchell Steele 32 and Ben Merrifield 48 showing their class with the bat.

Mitch Rohland blasted a quick-fire 38 which including five fours and a six with the side making 6-198.

Halls Heads innings never really got started losing wickets on a consistent basis thanks to some impressive bowling from Baldivis.

Opening bowler and captain Connor Russell led the way, taking 3-16 with Halls Head finishing 10-122.
