Swimmers from Baldivis and Wellard competing in Tasmania

TWO local swimmers are representing WA in Tasmania this week.

Alexey Ulupov, of Wellard, was selected to swim multi-class events such as the 50m and 100m freestyle, backstroke and breastroke and the 50m butterfly.

The Peter Carnley Anglican Community School student is a stroke survivor and has left-sided hemiplegia and vision impairment.

Sienna Cummins (13), of Baldivis, was selected to swim in the 50m and 100m freestyle, the 50m and 100m backstroke and three relay events.

The Iona Presentation College student has been swimming since she was a baby and joined the Kwinana Swimming Club when she was nine years old.

She trains in the National Squad with coach Kareena Preston. She has been training up to six two-hour sessions each week.

She also swims longer distances in the Open Water Series during the summer.

Sienna’s goal is to make it into the Nationals next year and one day to compete in the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and she dreams of making it to the Olympics.

The School Sport WA Swimming Team is at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships in Hobart until July 31.
