The best cyclists in WA will race through Wellard on Sunday

THE best cyclists of WA will be racing through The Village at Wellard as part of The Ring Summer Criterium 2018 race series this Sunday.

The race will be held for the first time in The Village and will consist of fast laps around a short and tight closed course through the heart of the Wellard Square shopping village.

The main event kicks off at noon, with the first race around the 900m circuit for new racers.

There will be plenty of action throughout the afternoon as the race moves through various levels, including the A- grade men competing in the top event at 4pm.

Spectators will get a close-up look at some of WA’s champion cyclists as they speed past, including Commonwealth Games gold medallist Micheal Freiberg, 2016 Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Scott Sunderland, former Australian Criterium champion Anthony Giacoppo and Junior Commonwealth Games participant Emily Mascaro.

There will be plenty of action street-side as well, with spectators able to enjoy the pop-up bars and food vendors set up especially for race day.

The Wellard Super Crit will also feature a free Little Critters children’s ride – a great opportunity to include children in the main event.

The Little Critters event will be supervised by parents and coaches and is open to children under the age of 11 and all bikes, including BMX, mountain bikes and road bikes.

The juniors’ event will consist of two laps around the track and all participants will receive a special event number plate for their bike to keep.

Children can be a part of the event if they sign up on the day and bring along their bike and helmet.
