ROCKIHGAM-Mandurah’s batters showed some backbone to push back against Fremantle in Premier Cricket round five action last weekend.
At Lark Hill, set 9-366 by last year’s runners-up, the reigning premier Mariners were chasing their first win of the season.
The top order clicked for the first time in 2016-17 as Mitch Green (60) and Tyler Robertson (30) put on 89 for the opening partnership.
Top scorer Dane Ugle was able to find important unions with Derryn Fernandez (27) of 71 runs, followed by a 64-run stand with Aaron Burrage (35) before being caught for 74.
Rockingham-Mandurah was unable to keep up with the stiff asking rate of four runs per over for 90 overs but will be heartened by a final score of 6-293, despite the loss.
This weekend sees Rockingham-Mandurah in action against Joondalup at Iluka in first grade.
