DARK and gloomy conditions at Rushton Park were not enough to stop the quality of Michael Barlow from shining through for Peel Thunder, as he led the side to a 14-point win over East Perth on Saturday.
Barlow’s 44 disposals and three goals almost singlehandedly derailed the Royals, who struggled in the wet conditions.
Fellow Dockers Cameron Sutcliffe and Tendai Mzungu also pressed their claims for a recall with 25 and 29 disposals respectively.
Thunder trailed by seven points at quarter time as East Perth scored two of their three goals for the match in the first term.
However, from there Peel seized control of the match in challenging conditions to run out 5.9 (39) to 3.7 (25) winners.
The low-scoring affair set the tone for the day with the reserves only able to muster one goal in its 15.13 (103) to 1.3 (9) loss at the hands of the Royals.
Colts also went down 6.13 (49) to 4.3 (27), with Michale Humble Peel’s best with 25 disposals.
Next week, the Thunder head to Shark Park to take on East Fremantle.
A win would bring Peel level on points with the third placed Sharks.
