SECRET Harbour Dockers Cricket Club is one of the only cricket clubs in the state to offer women’s, girls and integrated cricket teams.

Secretary Cory Spiers said the club started with both ladies and girls U13s in the 2017/18 seasons.

“The response to the ladies team has been very well received,” he said.

“Currently we have 13 registered players with a team of eight taking to the field each week.

“Games are very social with opposition teams often lending players to even up side numbers.

“The ladies are enjoying themselves and have great attitudes.”

Mr Spiers said in the initial stages there were about four female players.

“After advertising on Facebook we have been able to recruit essentially a new player each week which is fantastic,” he said.

Mr Spiers said the club had an emphasis on the ‘one club’ approach.

“This essentially means all our teams – juniors, seniors, integrated and ladies all come under the same banner,” he said.

“We are inclusive in all aspects and want everyone to have the ability to enjoy and love cricket regardless of their age, ability, gender or skill.

“Our aim not only for women’s cricket but also for junior cricket is to give our players the ability to play cricket for free.”
