THE first slab has gone down at Jindee estate in Jindalee, marking a milestone over a decade in the making.

The build is a landmark moment in the development’s long journey, which started in 2006 with an unprecedented land exchange proposal between developer Estate Development Company, the WA Planning Commission and the City of Wanneroo.

EDC chair Fiona Roche said the construction of the first family home saw the beginning of the shared vision for the community coming to life after years of planning.

“We put a lot of thought into the creation of Jindee and have always maintained a focus on a unique lifestyle and sense of community to set it apart from more traditional suburban developments,” she said.

“We are now seeing the beginnings of what is an innovative new addition to the City of Wanneroo, as the first form-based approach to development in WA – characterised by the clear vision we had from the outset of what the community will look like from the building types through to streetscapes.”

New Choice Homes is in charge of building this first family home in the estate and is expected to be finished by summer.

“It is refreshing to work with a developer whose main objective isn’t to just ‘cut-up’ as many blocks of land as possible to give the highest possible return on the investment,” New Choice Homes sales and marketing manager Joe Varacalli said.

“We strongly believe that the estate will be a great place for all families and professions at different stages of their lives, and that Jindee will be the place to be.”

As work commenced on the home, the initial landscaping works for Jindee were also completed, including a park which features Australia’s largest bench swing.

Ms Roche said that there had been a great response to the recently released Stage 1B, with sites overlooking the new parkland.

“After more than a decade of planning, it is fantastic to see our vision of a truly unique coastal village become a realisation,” she said.

The new onsite sales office is expected to open in June.
