Lucy JarvisJoondalup Times

NORTHERN suburbs gyms will host a boxing competition with the atmosphere of a professional event at Arena Joondalup on Saturday night.

Lacey’s Gym general manager Jon Ramage said 24 amateur boxers would take part in 12 bouts at the November 11 ‘Fight night’, starting from 6pm.

“It’s the first show of this kind in Perth,” he said.

“It’s an amateur fight night – we are doing a show for them in a pro-style environment with music, lights and corporate VIP tables. Normally an amateur show is just in a sports centre during the day.

“We are holding it to give some of out amateurs a chance to fight in a pro-style competition.”

Mr Ramage said two football players from Quinns Rocks Amateur Football Club and two from the Osborne Park Saints had been training at the Currambine and Innaloo gyms for their first fights.

“We’ve been training them for about six weeks,” he said.
