A HIGHLY anticipated clash of contenders took place in the waters off Hillarys on August 19 to determine the winner of Hillarys Yacht Club’s winter keelboat series.

A third placing behind Whispering Jack (Bruce Bradford) and Jack Tar (Bill Gilbert) in the final race was sufficient for Wayne Pitcher on Lithium to claim the series win from Sally Malay (Ian Walker) and Jack Tar in division one.

In division two, humour was to the fore when one contender arrived to find a wheel barrow tied to his boat.

Without the wheel barrow Helga (Mark Taylor) was still overtaken by HYC Training (Bart Brouwer) who went on to record second place behind Not Negotiable (Greg Hill) with Volant third.

This was sufficient for HYC Training to claim victory in the series from Helga and Show Me (Bruce Ellery).

Bart Brouwer was the stand-in skipper for Chris Kelly who skippered HYC Training in the previous five races.

In division three a second placing behind Sheer Magic (Tony Waymouth) was enough for Rob Bills on Catabatic to clinch the series win from Sheer Magic and Anastasia (Larraine Brindle).
