IT was a sombre tone at the briefing before racing at Hillarys Yacht Club on Sunday morning following the loss of two sailors from Fremantle Sailing Club.

They had been on a yacht competing in the Fremantle to Bunbury and return race, which started Friday.

The mood was matched by the sedate conditions and in an 8 knot nor-easterly the yachts set sail for the south cardinal marker off Scarborough.

In division 1, making the most of a good start, Perle (John Bird) challenged Sally Malay (Ian Walker) for the outright lead and fell short however was first on handicap with Sandrine (Ian Conboy) second and Sally Malay was third.

Klaus Scheckel’s team on Volant handled the light conditions very well to win in division 2 with Helga (Mark Taylor) second and fastest on the day Covert Operation (Bart Brouwer and Graham Atkinson) in third place.

Rob Giraudo sailed Pandora for a first and fastest in division 3 and Sana 11 was second (Brian and Rita Buzzard).
