YORK laid on a perfect spring day to host the 2017 State Road Cycling Championships last Sunday.

Northern Beaches Cycling Club ladies riding as JCC Women’s Racing Team walked away with two State titles and a total of four podium finishes in age categories.

The course through the rolling Wheatbelt hills had the open women’s and 30-39 age categories riding two laps (91km) while those over 39 rode 51km.

Kylie Anticich and Anna Heitz got the early break on the combined 40-49 and over 50 age group and worked together for the remaining 40km to stay ahead of the chasers to become State road champions for their respective categories.

In the sprint for second place in the over 50 group, Catherine Zainudin missed second place by a tyre width.

NBCC rider Marina Thorman, is going from strength to strength and claimed fourth place.

In the 30-39 age category, the 91km race came down to a sprint finish with Richelle Gamble clinching second place, just missing the win by a few hundredths of a second.

Riding in a high quality field in the open category, Wanda Jansen came in at fifth place despite a near flat tyre during the final few kilometres.
