The West Perth-based financial adviser, who also has offices in North Perth and Bunbury, then took his 18 staff to Melbourne for the national awards last Thursday where a Tasmanian distillery won the National Small Business Award.

Mr MacMillan said he did not expect to win the state award but used the opportunity to attend the Melbourne awards night to expand his networks in the eastern states.

‘We’re keen to continue our expansion over east,’ he said.

‘What we are doing is quite different so we want to show people the difference in finance advice.’

Mr MacMillan attended the national awards just a week after returning from a week-long executive management program at HEC University in Paris that was part of the reward for being named Australian Advisor of the Year 2013 and his business 2013 Australian Best Financial Planning Practice.
