ARTIST Catherine Christie has opened her gallery in Bay View Terrace, Claremont and wants to collaborate with fellow creatives to bring the space to life.

The Mosman Park resident worked with landlord Jeff Leach and finance company Finstro Perth to secure the lease and opened the doors in mid-September.

Her pearl-inspired works adorn the walls and she is now inviting jewellery and interior designers as well as fellow artists to share the space with her to ensure its future in Claremont.

“I had a JBV (Joint Business Venture) with Atlas for two years and I love Claremont, this is my beat, and I have amazing clients around here,” Christie said.

“Jeff Leach was very kind, I got the first month (rent) free, I couldn’t have done it otherwise.

“Finstro does finance for businesses that are expanding so all the help made it possible for me to open here.”

Christie said the “tough” arts market had inspired her to invite other creatives to collaborate with her in the space.

“I’m hoping to promote jewellery designers, visual artists etc,” she said.

“I want to collaborate with established and emerging talent from all over Australia.”

The mother of one has been painting the oyster for 20 years because of its similarity to art.

“The oyster embraces adversity and produces a pearl just like an artist produces a perfectly rounded piece of work,” Christie said.

Her works have expanded to include seascapes since she moved to Perth because of her love of the ocean.

Catherine Christie is offering a $2500 discount to new clients and $5000 discount to existing clients on works at the Claremont gallery until November 30.
