SHOP LOCAL: Lexus of Perth staff will benefit from Western Suburbs Business Association membership

Lexus of Perth has just signed up as an associate member of the Western Suburbs Business Association. Managing director David Jeary, who bought the business with his partners 13 year ago, talks about why business has been consistent since then.

1. What does Lexus of Perth hope to get out of the Western Suburbs Business Association?

The aim is to develop relationships with like-minded businesses and look for mutually beneficial opportunities. WSBA has some really good members and that’s the strength of the association. We’re also looking at how we can develop staff, to use it as a place to strengthen their networking and communication skills. Nowadays, selling cars is about relationships and this will allow us to introduce our brand to a new group of people.

2. Why is it important for businesses to support charities such as Telethon?

It’s our 12th Lexus Ball for Telethon this year and we’re coming off a record $1.68 million last year. Everyone in WA has a connection with Telethon and the thing I like about it is every dollar you donate gets distributed by the Telethon trustees to the people who need it most. We do everything in-house here. It’s a big commitment from the business but we believe it’s worthwhile when we can help to raise that sort of money. A lot of our employees have a sense of satisfaction and pride knowing what we do for Telethon every year and they become involved.

3. How has Lexus of Perth survived the peaks and troughs of the Perth economy over the years?

There hasn’t actually been that many downs, we’ve always been in a upward trajectory. We’ve always taken a really long-term view in business so it’s not about the short term, it’s about making decisions that will strengthen the business over a long period of time even if there’s not a profit return in the short term.

4. Why do consumers come to Lexus?

Over the past 13 years we’ve worked really hard at building our reputation. A lot of our sales come from word of mouth because we look after our customers. We’re an ethical and honest business that’s good to do business with. All luxury cars are good but we make sure our customer service is better than anyone else.

5. What’s your local coffee shop?

Voyage Kitchen, Sorrento because we can walk there from home. There’s nothing better than walking there with my wife and dog Harry.
