UPGRADING the Wembley SUPA IGA deli was worth every cent, with the store named WA’s Supa IGA Store of the Year at the recent IGA Awards of Excellence.

The store also won Deli of the Year, Dairy and Freezer Department of the Year and manager Natasha Irons was named Rising Star of the Year.

Owner Greg Brindle attributed the success to the upgrade of the deli.

“We spent a lot of money on upgrading the deli,” Mr Brindle said.

“There’s a strong focus on fresh food and food to go.

“Our deli is up with the best supermarket delis in Australia.”

Ms Irons’ win was no surprise to her boss who said she was “young, full of energy and enthusiastic”.

“She’s passionate about what she does and that’s the type of leadership we encourage,” he said.

Wembley SUPA IGA will now compete against stores across Australia in the national awards in July aiming to win their way to Las Vegas for the international awards.

“I know there are some very good independents in SA and QLD so the competition will be tough but I’m quietly confident to win best deli in Australia,” Mr Brindle said.
