Frankie’s on Rotto brings pizza delivery to Rottnest Island

Denise S. CahillWestern Suburbs Weekly

AN electrical engineer and an accountant are opening Rottnest Island’s first pizza shop, complete with a delivery service on electric bikes.

Adam Fielding, the engineer, and his friend Lee Bartlett will officially launch Frankie’s on Rotto this Sunday with a smoking ceremony performed by Aboriginal elders.

The dine in or takeaway restaurant is named after Mr Fielding’s one-and-a-half year old son Frankie.

While the duo has hired a manager and pizza chef, Mr Fielding is no stranger to the pizza business, having worked at Pizza Hut for three years as a teenager.

“We’ve hired a manager and 10 staff and our pizza chef is a young Italian lady,” he said.

“She is all about the sourdough base and has been creating bacteria to grow the pizza dough so it’s going to be a really healthy base.

“She’ll be cooking in an American Conveyor oven that can make 120 pizzas an hour.

“But our biggest selling point is the delivery because it’s unique – we have two electric bikes.”

It was the beauty and family atmosphere of Rottnest that lured the professionals to the business community on the island.

“Lee and I have been advocates for the island for years, we’ve volunteered doing tree planting in the past and we come across with our families,” Mr Fielding said.

The mates noticed the vacant tenancy a few months ago and while discussing the possibility of signing up, were eventually convinced to take the two adjoining spaces for their new venture.
