KAFTAN queen Camilla Frank says WA can expect a vibrant Brazilian carnival style-show when her collection hits the runway at Sunday’s Fashion Council WA’s Swim and Resort Series event.
The designer, whose pieces have been worn by celebrities such as Oprah, will be showcased after the WA Designer Runway event, which features eight local designers including Morrison, Amore and Sorvete.
Frank, who is expecting her first child in January, said her latest collection “From Rio, With Love” was inspired by a story of love and her travels though South America.
“It’s no new news that travel is the cornerstone of my prints, my collections,” she said.
“Just like Rio, there is never a dull moment.
“It’s a collection inspired by falling in love on holiday.
“Think punchy fruit prints offset with hypnotic kaleidoscope prints inspired by the many woven mandalas we picked up at the markets.
“We’ve introduced new silhouettes that are designed in embrace and celebrate the woman’s form.”
Frank, who last week was inducted into the Australian Fashion Walk of Style said she loved showing her collections in Perth because of its coastal and relaxed feel.
“Oceanside is part of my DNA, so I see Camilla resort and lifestyle wear as an extension of this, so the long stretches of West Australian beaches are a natural fit for us,” she said.
“We’ve been in spreading the world of Camilla in Perth for over four years now and the love we feel here is growing so strong. It makes sense for us to return.”
Franks tips for Summer
• Don’t follow trends: I’ve never followed trends or tried to conform to how a fashion brand should be. Where’s the authenticity in that?
• Love the skin you’re in: Every woman has the right to feel beautiful, no matter her age, shape, size or colour, and I hope my designs allow them to feel just that.
• Signature piece: Every woman should own something that makes her feel like a free, empowered goddess,
• Go bold: This summer is about being bold and our current Spring Summer collection ‘From Rio, With Love’ really embodies this. Think Carmen Miranda dancing on a table top in the South American sunshine!
