Getting in the swing of classic era

Tanya MacNaughtonWestern Suburbs Weekly

De Souza, now a high school drama teacher, has lived a variation of this dream for the last four years as a member of Cottontail Trio with Jessie Gordon and Amy Rosato, performing swing-era style music “featuring a killer jazz band and three-part harmony vocals”.

“I love the energy of the music, the swinging beat, the syncopation and the grin it brings to my face when I hear it,” she said.

“I enjoy making people laugh and singing swing with the Cottontail Trio allows me to do this.”

De Souza met Gordon, who already performed in soul bands Stratosfunk and The Darling Buds of May with Rosato, through the swing dancing social scene.

Gordon and Rosato asked De Souza to be their third member for a one-off Andrew Sisters act and the trio loved the experience so much, they have stayed together since.

The talented singers will perform at FRINGE WORLD Festival 2016 in Cottontail Trio: The Golden Era of Swing and The Darling Buds of May: The Swing Revue this February.

“There will be some classic numbers and a few new songs,” de Souza said.

“Complete with cheesy faces, jazz dancing and many matching outfits.”

De Souza said she had loved watching FRINGE WORLD’s evolution and looked forward to seeing so many ‘Perthians’ out and about during Festival time.
