AirAsia Indonesia CEO Dendy Kurniawan hopes the island will become a thriving tourist destination for many Australians.

The new service between Perth and Lombok also provides a welcome boost to the local tourism and visitor economy, which continues to recover from a recent earthquake.

Visitors to Indonesia represent Perth Airport’s largest outbound market.

“Indonesia is also Western Australia’s eighth largest visitor market,” Perth Airport chief corporate services officer Debra Blaskett said.

“Just last year, Western Australia welcomed 31,000 Indonesian visitors, injecting more than $60 million into the WA economy.”

The service to Lombok will add more than 77,000 seats to the Perth market annually.
