North Fremantle artist to exhibit at Hong Kong Art Week

ARTIST Francesca Gnagnarella recalls Hong Kong’s cherry blossoms, fog in the morning and blue sunsets as she creates more than a dozen pieces for Hong Kong Art Week from her Fremantle studio.

“I love the cherry blossoms in spring and I just look for the beauty in the city,” the North Fremantle resident said.

“Their sunset is blue at that moment in the afternoon when it’s not quite dark and the light shines through the skyscrapers.”

The North Fremantle resident will exhibit at Hong Kong Art Week – from September 27-October – 1 for the fifth time this year.

Gnagnarella discovered the Hong Kong art scene following a stop over on the way home from a successful group exhibition in China.

“My works were really well received at the group show and I sold all my pieces,” she said.

“On the way back I stopped in Hong Kong and had a meeting with the Hong Kong Art Week organisers.”

That meeting has led to Gnagnarella returning every six months to the city where she also works with interior designers.

Last year she was commissioned to create 12 pieces for MGM Casino.

Before embarking on Hong Kong Art Week, Gnagnarella will be part of The Other Art Fair presented by Saatchi Art in Melbourne from August 1-6 for the first time.

Her 4m x 3m artwork titled ‘If It Could Last Forever’ also provides the backdrop for 140 Perth’s current activation #140YOU.
