Santa’s Enchanted Wardrobe: enter a Narnia-like world at Claremont Showgrounds

Sara FitzpatrickWestern Suburbs Weekly

IMAGINE stepping into your wardrobe and entering the magical world of Narnia, like the children of C.S. Lewis’s acclaimed book series.

Inside you meet Mr Tumnus – the loveable half-faun, half-man character – who invites you to tea before guiding you on a quest into the Enchanted Forest and past the White Witch.

Perth couple Steve and Vivienne Doran are making the fantasy a reality with their immersive Christmas theatre experience.

Mr Doran said the show was based on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, however the ultimate goal was to find Santa and enjoy a festive family outing.

“A 70-year-old man who visited the event last year told us he felt the real magic of Christmas had come back to him during the event,” he said.

“It really is very different and unique – the key is you’re taking part in what happens.

“It’s not a sit down and watch theatre experience: you’re in a small group of 30, in which there might be only 10 or 15 kids so they get a lot of attention, and there is a lot of scope for fun and interaction with the characters.”

Very much a family affair, the show features the Doran’s two teenage children as characters, as well as 10 actors who begin the performance outside the theatre.

“Due to the success of last year’s event in Fremantle, we decided to go to a larger venue in Claremont and expand the set,” Doran said.

“Last year we could allow only 20 people through. Now up to 30 people can go through and they enter every 15 minutes, with the experience lasting about an hour-and-a-half.

“This isn’t just for kids; we very much want parents and grandparents to enjoy a spellbinding experience too.”
