The Bachelorette: Perth’s Blake Colman talks about trying to win Sophie Monk’s heart

HAVING never watched an episode of The Bachelorette, Subiaco entrepreneur Blake Colman did some light research and thought he would be hanging with “a bunch of douches”.

What the perennial stirrer walked away with was lifelong friendships (except two) and an experience he said he would do all over again in a heartbeat.

The cheeky 29-year-old who wooed Sophie Monk with a box filled with gifts and his buff bod in nothing but a fig leaf on a group date, said he had the time of his life.

“I never watched the show before in my life and I saw a bunch of dudes and thought I was going to walk into a bunch of douches so I went in there all guns blazing,” he said.

“It’s funny because all the boys got along go well and we were all backing each other.

“I came out a different person and it was so good meeting Sophie; we will have a bright future.”

Currently in Perth “sorting out stuff” Colman, whose last relationship ended because they were going in different directions, described his dating history as pretty standard despite one awkward one where his date would not speak.

“I wouldn’t say it was bad but I did go on a date where the girl didn’t say diddly squat all day,” he said.

“It was trying to get blood out of stone.

“But I’ve had a couple of cool ones – and of course with Sophie.”

With the intruders upping the ante this week, Colman said viewers could expect an interesting few episodes with winemaker and favourite to win Monk’s heart Jarrod Woodgate marking his territory.

“Everyone knows about one of the intruders but just watch them get out of the helicopter and listen to us rip shreds off them,” he said.

“It’s funny, we were like ‘Jarrod go to the front’, we put him in charge.

“Hats off to him – as much as we give him heaps on the show and he’s a bit crazy, he had the first date and that’s hard.

“He has to watch potentially 15 guys going on dates with her, he’s had it the hardest.”

As for the future and his current love life, Colman is not giving too much away.

“Sorry I don’t speak Spanish,” he said.

“But Sophie and I are all good, she is an absolute legend of a girl and she’s an absolute babe.

“I’m just enjoying life, I have a lot of things going on personally, enjoying the show and if things come, things come.

“Who knows I might follow in the footsteps of Sophie and go into TV – if she allows me.”

Somehow, we think that might not be too far away – Bachelor in Paradise anybody?
