The Bachelorette: third time’s a charm for Ali Oetjen

Belinda CiprianoWestern Suburbs Weekly

IT will be a case of third time lucky for The Bachelorette’s Ali Oetjen as she sets out on her quest to find love on the fourth season of the hit television series.

Oetjen, who first tried her luck at love in series one of The Bachelor with Tim Robards, found herself unlucky in love for a second time when she returned to the series franchise as part of the cast of Bachelor in Paradise.

Hooking up with American Grant Kemp, the duo endured a bitter break-up with Kemp alleging Oetjen betrayed him in his home town of Los Angeles.

Looking to put all that behind her, Oetjen said she was ready to settle down and viewers would see her in her rawest form – one that was goofy, adventurous and a bit of a tomboy.

“Everyone thinks that I’m a princess, high-maintenance girl but I’m the complete opposite,” she said.

“I grew up going camping, going adventuring, on farms, four-wheeling.

“That’s what you saw of me on The Bachelor and that’s who I am.

“I’m really excited for Australia to get to know who I am.

“I feel like a certain someone has painted me in a real bad, horrible light.”

Admitting to falling in love quickly, Oetjen said she was looking for someone genuine, down-to-earth, easy going and with a kind and big heart.

“I want someone that is affectionate, someone that has strong family values, someone that has a healthy lifestyle and wants marriage and kids,” she said.

“For me it’s something I’m not going to waiver on.

“I need to have all of those and I’m so lucky to have this chance cause I feel like it’s really possible.

“This experience forced me to take my time because I had to take all different kinds of men on dates and see how they interact and be able to compare them all.

“It was interesting to see, that I was really physically attracted to one at the start but then got to see little traits in their personality and maybe didn’t like them – stuff like that.

“It was great to be able to take my time.”

When it came to choosing her beau from what she described as a crop of “good men”, the 32-year-old said relied on her heart, mind and intuition.

“I used all three: my intuition, my heart and my mind,” she said.

“Every guy was totally different and I was seriously blown away at how lucky I was.

“I woke everyday and was so grateful that I got to choose from this group of guys.

I kept saying halfway through I need more dates, I need more time and I was thinking ‘how are all these good men’, where have they have been hiding?”

With a current 33 percent strike rate for the show with only Bachelorette to find love Georgia Love, Oetjen said she hoped she would make it 50 per cent.

“I hope so, I seriously hope so with all of my being I hope so, so bad,” she said.

“I think it’s going to be a massively crazy, fun ride.”

The Bachelorette Australia airs on Wednesday, October 10 at 7.30pm on Ten and Win Network.
