READ NOWThe action movie sequel is being released in 2020, 34 years after the 1986 original.
Cruise, 57, is reprising his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
According to the film’s synopsis, Maverick is “pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him”.
Maverick finds himself training a group of pilots, including “Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: ‘Rooster’, the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) Goose.
Rooster has even inherited Goose’s natty little moustache.
“Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it,” the synopsis, predictably, concluded.
A teaser trailer for Top Gun: Maverick was unveiled earlier this year.
The film is set to be released in June 2020.
