THE City of Subiaco has committed to contributing $250,000 to a $1.5 million upgrade of a crash-prone intersection.

Councillors unanimously agreed at a council meeting on Tuesday night to support a City of Nedlands Railway Road and Aberdare Road intersection improvement design.

The plan includes the construction of a new northbound right turn lane on Railway Road, removal of the on-road cycle lanes, installation of new off-road shared paths on both sides of Aberdare Road, and re-alignment of the intersection to improve sightlines, pedestrian and cyclist facilities.

Mayor Penny Taylor said the upgrade would improve safety and traffic congestion in the area.

The intersection is located within the boundaries of the City of Nedlands and City of Subiaco.

Both local governments’ will now apply for state funding, and if successful, would pay $250,000 each for the improvements, being one sixth of the cost.
