St Kilda great Danny Frawley dies in car crash

FORMER St Kilda captain and Richmond coach Danny Frawley has died in a car accident in country Victoria, the day after his 56th birthday.

Frawley died after his vehicle hit a tree near Gordon, 20km east of Ballarat, about 1.30pm on Monday.

No-one else was in the car at the time and investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Frawley was an uncompromising defender with the Saints, for whom he made 240 appearances in an 11-year career.

He also made 11 appearances for Victoria.

After a four-year stint coaching the Tigers, which ended in 2004, Frawley became a much-loved media personality.

As well as commentating for Fox Footy, Frawley was the co-host of Bounce with former opponent Jason Dunstall.

He was also involved with the SEN footy commentary team.
