Astro Boy water colour is the best art in Claremont

Jon BassettWestern Suburbs Weekly

SELF-TAUGHT Nedlands artist Brendan Lewis (22) has won the $5000 2018 Claremont Art Award.

Mr Lewis won the prize for his Astro Boy water colour of his 11-year-old, ADHD-diagnosed brother last Friday.

“Like Astro-Boy, whilst he’s treated at times like an android, his ability to experience and express human emotions is greater than most humans he interacts with,” Mr Lewis said.

The judges commended Mr Lewis’ ability with watercolours that highlighted “a poignant duality between strength and vulnerability”.
