Australia will pursue domestic ivory ban

AAPWestern Suburbs Weekly

AUSTRALIA will soon implement a ban on the domestic trade of elephant ivory and rhino horn.

Environment Minister Sussan Ley made the announcement at a meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora in Geneva.

“Australia’s domestic market does not represent a major threat to world ivory trade but it is important to ensure there are no back doors to encourage illegal activity,” Ms Ley said.
