New dads kicking back in comfort at maternity hospital

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

DADS staying overnight at St John of God Subiaco Hospital maternity ward now have the option to sleep in comfort on border beds.

Border beds, which can be converted into chairs, are available in rooms which do not have a double bed.

A number of border beds were trialled at the hospital in 2018 and were favoured by dads staying overnight at the maternity ward.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital chief executive Professor Shirley Bowen said the beds were introduced in response to feedback from new parents.

“The birth of a child is an incredibly special time and we want to ensure that mums and dads on the maternity ward are as comfortable as possible during the first few days of their baby’s life,” she said.
