Boy kicked to head during Scarborough robbery

Laura PondWestern Suburbs Weekly

A TEENAGER has been kicked to the head during a robbery at Scarborough Beach.

Police say a 17-year-old Darch boy was sitting on a swing in the foreshore playground on August 2 between 10.40pm and 10.50pm when he was attacked.

A male suspect kicked the boy to the head twice, hitting his left cheek, and stole his backpack.

The boy’s friends were sitting at a nearby table and one of them went after the suspect, who was part of a group.

The 17-year-old friend tried to retrieve the backpack, managing to get the group to hand over a wallet from the bag.

As he turned to leave with the wallet, the friend was punched in his left eye by one of the group, causing a laceration.

Scarborough Police Senior Sergeant Craig Wanstall said both boys were all right but urged anyone with information or who was at the foreshore Friday night to contact police.

He said activity at Scarborough Beach had otherwise been good over the past few months.
