Businesses in Mosman Park mall may not stick around for redevelopment

Bryce LuffWestern Suburbs Weekly

WORK on a $6 million facelift for the Mosman Park Shopping Centre will start next week, but not all tenants are sticking around to see the result.

A spokesman for centre owner East River Pty Ltd, Terry Posmer, said work would take about 15 months to complete and bring with it a whole new look.

That includes a complete upgrade of shopfronts to the tired site on Harvey Street, which was constructed in the 1960s, and about 700sq m of additional retail and office space.

Mr Posmer said it was an exciting time, with the centre owners receiving the go-ahead to start work from the Town of Mosman Park last week, almost two years after development approval had been ticked off.

But not everyone will reap the benefits of a fresh new look.

With shopfront and wholesale sides to her business, Simply Beautiful Biscuits manager Daniella Young said any chance the redevelopment could interfere with her operation was not a risk she was willing to take.

Her business will move to new premises two minutes away on Wellington Street within four weeks.

A Town spokeswoman said a delay between obtaining planning approval and having the building permit issued was not unusual.

“Planning approval is generally granted subject to a number of conditions that need to be satisfied before a building permit can be applied for,” she said.
