Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) collaborated with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) for a campaign that provided more than 20 local butchers statewide with marketing merchandise and tools to help with their own sausage sizzle.

AMIC (WA branch) chairman and Weir’s Butchers owners Ted Weir said his shop raised more than $300 in three hours and continued with the fundraising across the whole month of September.

Mr Weir has run Weir’s Butchers since 1942 and said his brother and manager both had prostate cancer, so he was happy to be a part of the cause.

‘It’s a great way of getting the blokes involved, cooking on the barbie, especially to raise awareness,’ Mr Weir said.

PCFA State manager Cate Harman said the partnerships were a fantastic way to promote local butchers in their community and to raise vital funds for prostate cancer research.
