FOUR-legged friends and their owners will crowd the dog exercise area at Alderbury Park on May 26.

Town of Cambridge Rangers will host their first Canines of Cambridge event this month to assist dog owners in fostering a better relationship between the Town and its rangers.

Ranger and Services Coordinator Luke Evans said the Town wanted to break the stigma that rangers have within the community.

“We are a law enforcement so we want to try and break that stigma, as we’re normal people and we want to help dog owners and the community,” he said.

“This is one way of bringing dog owners and the community together.”

Donations can be made on the day to raise funds for the Shenton Park Dog Refuge, with the money set to go towards vet bills.

“We know that dog owners are really passionate in this area of Perry Lakes and the dog exercise area is very well used – we even turn the lights on here in winter as it makes the most of the area,” Mayor Keri Shannon said.

Mr Evans said he expected a big turnout for the free event, with family friendly activities on offer including a sausage sizzle, fairy floss machine, a photo booth and kids entertainment.

Prizes will also be given to the best dressed dog on the day.
