Casey’s compassion warms the heart

The Bold Park Community School student said he was determined to reach his target of donating at least 20 sleeping bags to the Salvation Army this month.

"I wanted to help in a soup kitchen but we couldn't find one, so then we heard on the radio about collecting sleeping bags," he said.

"It is important because homeless people cannot be warm because they don't have enough money to buy sleeping bags."

His mother Tanya Hemington said Casey's project started as part of his community service to achieve the highest badge in Joey Scouts called the Joey Promise Challenge.

"Casey has always been a very compassionate kid, always concerned for others and very aware of other people's feelings," Mrs Hemington said.

"He is very overwhelmed at the attention the cause is receiving and he really wants to achieve his goal. He should be very proud of himself. We are proud of him."
