Cat cafe a purrfect plan for Subiaco

Rosanna CandlerWestern Suburbs Weekly

The City of Subiaco recently opened public comment on a change of use application from shop to cat cafe at 147 Rokeby Road until December 16.

Earlier this year, founders Chris Mewburn and Terps Platritis exceeded their online crowdfunding campaign to raise $150,000 to open the cafe.

“We officially have a location that is perfect for all of our furbabies, furvisitors and furfriends,” a message on The Cat Cafe Perth Facebook page on Sunday said.

“We have signed an agreement with the owners, submitted the development application, architectural drawings, food business and change of use applications.

“We are now waiting for approvals from the council, (and) the timing of this is at their control.”

Themed cat cafes started in Japan about 10 years ago, with patrons all over the world enjoying a cup of coffee while making feline friends ever since.

Australia’s first cat café opened in Melbourne last July.
