Christmas product hits Coles’ shelves four months early

Staff WriterWestern Suburbs Weekly

CHRISTMAS has come early as fruit mince pies hit the shelves of a supermarket giant this month.

Coles have announced they will be stocking their Christmas fruit mince pies about 19 weeks ahead of Christmas.

The pack of six pies will be available for $2 in Coles stores across the country.

Product developer Liz da Silva said the idea to bring fruit mince pies early was based on the bakery team’s observation that 50.8 per cent of the pies sold last year were bought before December.

“People clearly don’t want to wait for a little taste of Christmas, and we believe this season’s pies are the supermarket’s best yet,” she said.

“This year we’ve packed in even more fruit, more than twice as much as last year, inside a melt-in-your-mouth shortcrust pastry.”

The mince pies were due to be rolled out from today, it was reported, but a shopper posted online he saw them being sold on Saturday.
