City Beach Surf Club access ramp temporarily fenced off

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

TEMPORARY fencing has been fitted to the access ramp near City Beach Surf Club due to a crack in the wall.

Town of Cambridge Mayor Keri Shannon said the Town was aware of the crack, which first appeared and was fixed in 2016, and then reappeared again in 2018.

“Temporary safety fencing has been erected around the affected area to create an exclusion area in order to ensure public safety while we investigate the issue,” she said.

“The wall itself is approximately four years old and with the crack first appearing and being initially repaired in 2016.”

Ms Shannon said the Town believed the crack was a result of lateral movement of concrete slabs from the beach access ramp.

“Its re-appearance in 2018 has warranted the further investigation and due diligence,” she said.

“The Town has been undertaking appropriate measures, which have included surveying the wall and beach access ramp to determine the rate of movement and holding meetings with the Town’s contractor and other consultants to determine the cause of the issue.”
