At last month’s Subiaco council meeting, councillors approved $4.5 million for underground power in Shenton Park.

The final section of power to be placed underground includes homes between Onslow and Aberdare roads.

Hilda Street resident Peter Tallentire ” who has lived in the suburb for 22 years ” said he was relieved it was going ahead.

‘There’s the obvious danger of fallen tree branches, but I think it’s the visual that hits people day in, day out,’ Mr Tallentire said.

‘It’s got to be done and I’m delighted to hear it is happening.’

Works are expected to take place towards the end of the 2012-13 financial year.

Mayor Heather Henderson said it was a great outcome for the City.

‘The City was one of the first local governments in WA to begin undergrounding of power, with the first streets done in the early 1980s,’ Mrs Henderson said.

‘Completing underground power has been on the agenda for some time, so the council is very pleased to be able to finish this with technical assistance from Western Power.’
