Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

THE City of Nedlands has thrown its support behind an $11.3 million, two-storey extension of Hollywood Private Hospital’s existing mental health unit.

Councillors agreed at a meeting last night to recommend Metro West JDAP approve the demolition of existing hospital buildings, including the McCusker Unit and finance and marketing building, to pave the way for the extension.

The applicant Element has proposed the removal of 23 car parking bays at ground level as well as some trees and vegetation.

A covered car park to fit 27 parking bays, including one ACROD bay, is proposed for construction.

Mental health ward support facilities, including offices, are proposed to be located on the level next to the car park.

The mental health ward and a courtyard is planned for the second floor of the building.

An officer report said the City found the development “consistent with the relevant planning structure”.

A final decision on the approval of the development will be made by the Metro West JDAP, with an officer recommendation to support the extension.
