CITY of Nedlands has become the first local government in the State to recycle compact verge hard waste.
The new technology at West Tip Waste Control’s Resource Recovery Plant will enable the City to recover all household furniture, including white goods and metal products, which have previously been deposited in landfill.
City of Nedlands Mayor Max Hipkins said the implementation of this new technology was a significant technological and financial achievement for the City.

READ NOW“The City’s waste management service is in a strong position and continues to make saving for the City’s ratepayers by achieving cost effective outcomes,” he said
“The competitive tender process for the bulk collection and disposal services has managed to achieve projected savings of approximately $65,000 (excluding GST) annually in comparison to last years’ budget due to improved procedures.
“Residents’ waste charges continue to remain unchanged since 2013.”
The new technology will enable the City to separate waste at the source and help them towards their goal of achieving the State Government’s target of diverting 65 per cent of waste from landfill.
Mr Hipkins said the City was one of the top performers.
“This new technology will further boost its recovery rates and achieving the State Government’s targets,” he said.
