City of Subiaco propose 2.33 per cent rate rise

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

SUBIACO residents should prepare for a 2.33 per cent rate increase under the City’s 2019 and 2020 budget.

Councillors will consider the 2019/20 budget at a meeting next Tuesday, with an officer recommendation for adoption.

There is also a 2.3 per cent increase proposed for properties in the City that are eligible to pay an Emergency Services Levy, where funds are fed back to the Department of Fires and Emergency Services.

The budget also makes room for the construction of a proposed $4.5m carpark between the Bob Hawke College and Subi East redevelopment project.

The City will consider installing hard court facilities on the roof of the carpark.

An officer’s report said the space would help address “an expected shortfall in parking in the area”.

A proposed $3.2m relocation of the City’s existing Operations Centre in Jolimont to Bishop Street and $520,000 interior refurbishment of the City’s library have also been listed under the budget.

Rokeby Road South Streetscape works have also been proposed but no funds have been allocated yet.

There is no set increase to the City’s waste service charges planned for the next financial year.
