Claremont: traffic crash brings peak-hour traffic to standstill

Jon BassettWestern Suburbs Weekly

RUSH-HOUR western suburbs traffic was brought to a standstill when a building supplies truck brought down a light pole across two lanes near the John Street-Stirling Highway intersection, Claremont about 8.20am this morning.

“The wing mirror just clipped it,” truck driver ‘Tony’ told Western Suburbs Weekly.

The newspaper was driving past as the truck hit, watched the pole fall and got the first pictures of stopped drivers and their confusion, including some daring to go under the light before emergency services arrived.

There were no injuries, and both police and Western Power were called to attend, redirect traffic and neutralise the pole’s power.
