The Trust has been merged with DPAW and theyre just handballing our enquiries back and forward to each other and its a struggle to get through to the right person, North Fremantle-based Perth Stand-Up Paddle School operator Cameron McKay said.
Mr McKay wants to hold SUP yoga classes from 5pm to 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and 7am to 8am on weekends in Freshwater Bay, Peppermint Grove.
DPAW has already permitted another operator to run SUP yoga lessons east of the Narrows Bridge in South Perth.
Last week, Mr McKay asked the Peppermint Grove Council to recommend to DPAW that it allow up to eight students and a qualified instructor to perform yoga on anchored SUP boards in the bay, which is sheltered and safer compared to adjacent Mosman Bay.
However, councillors were concerned SUP classes used up limited foreshore parking bays, residents were subsidising exercise businesses in public spaces, and there was no state government policy for river use permits.
Councillors decided to recommended to DPAW that SUP yoga classes not be allowed from 7am to 8am on Saturdays because of their proximity to homes and detraction from the general amenity.
