In a sting reminiscent of the Hollywood film the Bling Ring, more than $40,000 of designer gear was stolen from a Cottesloe home while one of the residents slept inside.

A $12,000 Hermes handbag was among the haul taken from the Webb Street home between 11.45am and 12.15pm on October 16.

“(The owner’s son) heard hanging and thought it was his parents coming home, and went back to sleep,” Senior Constable Belinda Crafford said.

The son later woke to find his home’s side door had been forced open and the valuables had been taken.

Snr Const Crafford said the haul included 15 pairs of women’s shoes valued at $1000 a pair, mostly by the designer Valentino and others by Chanel.

The thieves also took another handbag worth $2000.

Forensic officers have examined the house and police are investigating several leads.
