Cottesloe and Mosman Park car thefts have police concerned

Jon BassettWestern Suburbs Weekly

THIEVES are smashing open cars parked on streets, verges and driveways in Cottesloe and Mosman Park in a spate of thefts that has police concerned .

“A lot of it was vehicles which had been left unlocked,” Sergeant Paul Gelmi said.

Since September 30, Sgt Gelmi’s Cottesloe station has recorded at least 25 of the thefts in the two suburbs.

Clusters of the crimes were reported on streets centred about Wellington and Palmerston streets in Mosman Park, the Salvado Street-Avonmore Terrace precinct in Cottesloe, and Eric Street further north in Cottesloe.

Sgt Gelmi said laptop computers, sunglasses and other valuables left in open view in the cars were often the thieves’ targets.
