Cottesloe man charged for allegedly setting fire to neighbours’ car

A COTTESLOE man (61) allegedly set alight a late-model Range Rover destroyed by fire in Geraldine Street, Cottesloe street about 1.55pm on Saturday.

“CCTV of the incident has helped identify the alleged offender,” Senior Sergeant Tony Booker said.

Sgt Booker said the man and the vehicle’s owners had an argument about their dogs’ noise in August, but he would not comment on whether that incident and the fire were directly connected.

It will be alleged the Range Rover’s owners saw the man when they left their home a few minutes before 1.55pm on Saturday.

A short time later, they were contacted by neighbours about the fire, and came home to see their Range Rover in flames.

Firefighters regarded the fire as accidental, but the Range Rover’s owners thought it was suspicious and contacted police.

The man was charged with criminal damage by fire, before he was bailed to reappear at Perth Magistrates Court on June 21.
