It is alleged the man punched the victim so hard that the victim suffered a fractured eye socket, broken nose, chipped tooth and bruising.

“It will be alleged that while the victim was speaking to a woman, a man approached him and without warning may have head-butted his victim,” Senior Sergeant Tony Booker said.

It will also be alleged the victim was then punched and fell to the ground, where he was punched several more times.

Sgt Booker said the victim was putting a woman’s details into his mobile phone when the alleged attacker grabbed the phone.

The victim grabbed back the device and then received the first blow to his face.

“He is unsure whether it was a head butt or a punch, but when he touched his face he looked at his hand and realised he was bleeding heavily,” Sgt Booker said.

Police will allege he was then punched in the face and fell before the attacker climbed on top of him and threw several more punches.

Hotel security ejected the alleged attacker from the venue and gave the victim first aid.

He went to Fiona Stanley Hospital several days later when the seriousness of his injuries was confirmed and the incident subsequently reported to Cottesloe police.

After obtaining CCTV from the hotel, police arrested the alleged attacker and charged him with assault occasioning bodily harm yesterday.

Police will ask he be banned from all licensed premises in WA when he appears at Perth Magistrates Court on May 23.
