SUBIACO Mayor Heather Henderson says the City of Subiaco is already a few years behind on preparing a future vision for Subiaco oval when AFL leaves in 2018.
At a council meeting on Tuesday night, councillors voted 11-1 to utilise its North Subiaco Town Planning and Urban Design Study to form the basis of discussions with the State Government and key stakeholders in developing a final vision for Subiaco oval.
"We probably should have done this a few years ago, it is getting to the cutting edge now," Mrs Henderson said.

READ NOW"We cannot let the decision go to the State Government without a whisper from us.
"People are itching to get into conversation with us about the future of Subiaco oval.
"We have already seen a proposal for a water park, and there will be many more.
"Unless we are set up to listen (to these proposals) we are going to look really foolish."
Cr Julie Matheson said she believed the City had no stakeholders left to connect with, because Premier Colin Barnett had "scared them off".
Cr Matheson said Mr Barnett was resolute in his plan to demolish the oval for apartments and office space.
"(As well as turning away the WA Cricket Association), he has convinced the West Coast Eagles that they have no future at Subiaco oval, so they are making some kind of agreement with Lathlain Park," she said.
"According to the Premier, he has control over the oval, he doesn't want any competition with the new stadium and Subiaco Oval is going."
Cr Paul Clements' amendment to encourage open public space in the Subiaco oval future vision was approved 8-4.
"There is a line in the sand here," Cr Clements said.
"We are going to have a demand for open space, so let's put it front and centre."
