CLAREMONT Football Club scored an own goal when it erected signs outside its headquarters six times larger than allowed.
Argument about retrospective approval for signs at Claremont Oval reading ‘Revo Fitness Stadium’ and ‘Revo Fitness’, which is the oval’s naming rights sponsor, reached the State Administrative Tribunal last month.
The club appealed to the tribunal after Claremont councillors rejected an initial application in December.

READ NOWCouncillors said the signs breached the Town’s signs local law because the two on the stadium’s eastern side comprised 37sq m when only 4sq m was licensed, and only 2sq m on the west wall was allowed where there was a 5.6sq m sign.
After mediation, the club tried again for councillors’ approval at the March 17 meeting.
“I came to apologise to the careless way we sent about the signs’ application,” club chief executive Darcy Coffey said.
Mr Coffey said the signs outside their allowed sized had been put up “in haste” for the 2019 WA Football League Grand Final.
Councillors agreed unanimously to the SAT’s recommendation retrospective approval be considered again.
However, the club will have to conform to Claremont’s Signs Strategy in any future applications.
